A Neighborhood Straight Out of The Wonder Years , Plus A Love Letter from the Owners of 12 Morin Road
Remember the neighborhoods in The Wonder Years or The Sandlot? The ones where kids spent summer evenings riding bikes until the streetlights flickered on, where winter meant snow forts and sledding hills, and where front doors were always open for a neighborly chat? A place where community wasn’t just a word, it was a way of life.
That kind of neighborhood isn’t just a television memory. It’s right here, at 12 Morin Road in Newburyport.
Tucked away in one of Newburyport’s premier cul-de-sacs, this is the kind of place where kids grow up with scraped knees and full hearts, where the streets echo with laughter, and where neighbors look out for each other, not in a nosy way, but rather in a way that makes life just a little bit better. But don’t just take my word for it. The sellers of 12 Morin Road share their story after 13 unforgettable years in this home:
Dear Future Owner of 12 Morin Road,
Boy, are you ever fortunate to have ended up here. Twelve and a half years ago, my wife and I took a leap of faith and bought this house in Oleo Woods. At the time, there were only five or six of the eventual 25 houses built. The rest of the neighborhood was a very busy construction site for the first year or so. Certainly, when we bought the home, we could not have dreamed what an incredible and magical place Oleo Woods would become.
Over the years at 12 Morin, my wife and I have raised six children and created many memories. Having lived in multiple neighborhoods throughout our lives, we can honestly say there are not many places like Oleo Woods—in fact, there may not be any. At its peak, the neighborhood was home to more than 50 children under the age of 15. And yet, you could ask any resident, and they could easily recite the name and age of every one of those kids. That’s just the kind of place this is… a true throwback to years past.
In the unlikely event that one or more of our children were “bored,” Oleo Woods always delivered a diversion. Simply grab a ball or bike and go outside, you were almost certain to gather a crowd of friends in short order. The same could be said for the adults: grab a drink, step outside, and within minutes, several neighbors would join you. There is an amazing sense of community in Oleo Woods, and we have so enjoyed being a part of it.
The decision to leave Oleo Woods was not made lightly. This house and this incredible neighborhood have become part of our family. But ultimately, with most of our children grown, we feel it’s time to move on and let another family experience and take advantage of this wonderful place. This home has given us so much, and now it’s ready for its next chapter with you. We hope you make it your own and fill it with new stories, laughter, and love. We certainly did.
Buster & Rebecca
